Sam, The decision is an easy one. Get the 88 900 16V 5 spd. I had an 83 900T 5 spd for over 13 years and 251,000. When it was totalled, I replaced it with an 87 900S 16V 5 spd. No, the 87 was not as fast as the older turbo model, but the car was more solid and my insurance only went up $ .75. Yes, 75 cents. I got a car that was 4 years newer, was a little slower and lot cheaper to drive. You don't want an older Saab with the automatic. You may hear that from others as well. When I totalled my 87 900S in December 97', I replaced it with an 87 9000S 5spd. I love it. I will always love my 900s but the 9000 is a different animal. It is like moving from a fighter to Lear jet.
