These are your basic RWD design and over-engineered, which explains why they are so easy to maintain. But you want a previously owned Saab. The Saab 900s are fairly easy to work on, just have good metric tools, torx drivers and that special brake tool. They will run forever if maintained properly. Just remember the Saab is a FWD car with those CV joints and rubber boots that eventually tear. I learned the hard way just how expensive these joints are if you drive with a torn boot. My personal opinion would be to get a manual tranmission, just because they are more fun and they seem to last much longer than the automatics. If you happen to buy an '84 through '86 900, I have the full set of Saab Shop manuals.
