Hi I've located sources of weird noises by getting an old hollow antenna, cutting off the bottom so it is open. Then clench it in your fist, leaving the hollow end open so you can see it. Put the other side on where you think the noise comes from. When holding your ear on your fist you may hear the noise if the other side is in the general vicinity of the problem - kind of a poor man's stethoscope. This is probably an old trick that everyone knows - my father taught me and it was old when he learned it - but it could be useful. Hope it helps!
