David, My 87 900T had the same problem. The suspension checked out "good" as well. What I ended up doing was replacing the shocks (factory Boge) and then replaced the tires. The suspension is tight and smooth now and has a great ride. The Tires are what made the biggest difference. they were some kind of generic tire that were on the car when I bought it.
