My '93 9KT blew a head gasket the other day while moving fast down the interstate. Turns out something punctured the radiator and I never noticed the temp shoot up until it was pegged.Well since this was the second Saab of mine to do this. I already know the routine. No local independent so off to the dealer. Blah Blah $800 Blah ..maybe $900... whatever. The Head goes to the machine shop and it can still be shaved but the valve guides(seals?) on 2,3 and 4 are toast and need replacing at $35 a pop(X16). I told them I never encountered (or heard such a thing) but he tried to tell me the head must have super heated to ruin them. I admit it got hot but wouldn't the whole head go China syndrome if the valve seals scorched? Anyway I told him to hold off till Monday, to give me time to find some answers to this and they said that I should have the whole head done( valve job and guides) as the mileage is 100K. Is this as ludicrous as it sounds.?
