Quite a lot, this has been discussed here before. The timing chain is normally replaced when it becomes noisy, 80-100 K miles. Sprocket wheels and the balancer chain should also be replaced at the same time. The cost is mainly due to the hours involved; a whole day or so. Some people can do it themselves, but it is not for beginners. Divide the expense with the mileage you have done and it becomes more bearable. Johannes
