The 'buzz' from mine is definitely gears grinding slightly, not a squeal. Thanks to all for the good counsel. I decided to leave the other car alone. Although a tranny in the hand seemed more appealing than one on the shelf, I'll either drive cautiously, or go for a rebuild. I'm afraid I've heard nothing very convincing about additives for solving transmission wear. I know a former race mechanic who used something as a preventative or performance factor, but those folks take their equipment apart so often that it's hardly applicable to street conditions. tnx again for the comments.
