I have a friend that ended up with a 73 saab sonett III not long ago. Things were going good, but after awhile it died while going down the highway. So him and some buddies checked thing over and figured the spark wasn't good enough to start or run it. one fancy ignition later and its still not running. that's where I come in. My uncle was going to see what he could do about it and I came along to help. When we got there we found the ignition was far from installed correctly so we ripped half of it out and put it in right. but even after that we couldn't get it to go. so I shoved the compression gauge into the plug hole and cranked it. the needle was climbing, but it was hard to tell. cylinder 3 and 4 were dead. no compression. I looked at the plugs from those cylinders and they looked as if the tips were melted. not good. so we stuck everything back together and cranked it till it finally started. after running for less then a minute, there was quite a cloud of exhaust coming from the carb. we shut things down and called it a night from there. anyone got any ideas what's wrong? One interesting thing is that not very long ago the valve seats wee worked over so it could run on unleaded gas. could this have anything to do with it? sorry bout the long post.
