Michael, Do you really mean LCD? It's possible that you're right, but earlier years (9000s up to '96) have only light emitting displays - these are in the Climate Control, Clock/Computer, and Instrument Cluster (Voltage/mpg). If its the Voltage/mpg unit below the speedo, then this is backlit by a couple of little bulbs. These are reasonably simple to replace, having removed the dash lid and then the instrument pod. Give yourself a long afternoon if you've not done it before. About 2 hours if you know what you're doing. Probably 45 mins bogie time at the SAAB agent. However, please completely ignore this if you really are talking about an LCD.
