The engine and HP are the same/similar to an Aero in the US, but it feels so much faster because it is geared shorter. Basically, they designed the tranny and ratios for the turbo 2.0L and then upped the torque/HP with the 2.3 and did not change the transmission gear ratios until '93. That way, the '91 and '92 9k 2.3T feels so much faster mainly because it is quicker in acceleration due to the gearing.
