In the distances involved, and the costs associated with them, it may very well be that that same money could be more effectively spent elsewhere, and get better environmental benefit. Point remains, even if the systems are in place (Amtrak, for instance), if people don't like using them, they will continue to drive, regardless of the cost(s). Sometimes overcoming the social inertia is harder than the technical solution itself. Dave Hinz
