I thought it might have something to do with the synthetic oil breaking down the molecular structure of the rubber that they used in this vintage. We'll have to consult a lubrication expert. I talked to someone at the Saab garage where all the previous owners had there work done (I bought the car from a person who's father is a mechanic at this garage) & he said that any good quality oil would suffice. He did say that using synthetic oil would cause leaks. "Does this engine have a turbo? Is that original if it's there?" The engine does not have a turbo. Mark
