All cars will eventually have failed head gaskets. How many other 10-15 year old cars have you owned? And what were their mileages? Saabs tend to be used at significantly higer mileages than most cars, so head gasket failures are more noticeable. The 16v gasket is perhaps very slightly more prone to fail than some 4 cyl. cars, but it's by no means a major weak spot. Head gaskets are cheap and don't take long to replace. If you want a weak spot to worry about, the C900 gearbox is a much better choice ;-) > Also, my mechanic says the external leak (just a bit of oil on the side > of the block) is nothing to worry about... (I'm not too sure).. He's right. > Should I get this fixed? Am I temping fate? How much oil are you losing? My 1987 16vT has been oozing oil for about 3 years now. I'll change the gasket as soon as it develops a coolant leak. -- Grunff
