That is understandable and I agree. But it has been like that for more than 50 years, even after Ralph Nader showed that making a safe car was actually cheaper than making an unsafe car, or the fact that it was cheaper for Ford to pay liability damages for exploding Pintos than it was to change the design, set up tooling and manufacturing to install a safe fuel tank. In the US the car industry is only a matter of selling cars and making a profit, regardless. At SAAB In Sweden they had an eye for safety, where SAAB engineers examined wrecked cars to improve safety aspects of their designs.
