I've got an 89 900S (175k). Even small amounts of liquid seem to find its way down that hole. Once, with the key out of the ignition, I actually managed to spill that very fine McDonalds salt into it, followed by some water, which really jammed her up good. I like the basic location, but they should have placed the ignition on a raised portion of the console to keep that hole high and dry above the spillage. I seem to remember seeing that problem corrected on later models.
