However, I do not believe that the weak point in the DI cassette is the coils. It is much more likely that it is the electronics inside the cartridge that fries (400V generation, spark control, 80V generation, ionization sensing). The ignition system for Trionic 8 does not use a single DI cassette, instead four small cassettes (one for each spark plug) and one module mounted on the side of the engine (the Combustion Detection Module) are used. However, the combined cost of the four small cassettes are above the cost of one DI cassette. Trionic 8 is used on the new 2003 9-3 SportSedan. -- G–ran Larsson http://www.nospam.com/saab/
