I was looking at a cherry 2001 328i. Drove it, crawled under it, had my mechanic look at it. Passed with flying colors. Got the CarFax, apparently clean, a one-owner leased vehicle CPO with reasonable mileage. CarFax showed the previous owner's name and town. Looked up his number and called. He warned me away from the car because of a sporadic drivetrain thump that three dealers and BMWNA had failed to fix in more than half-a-dozen tries. He couldn't wait to dump it off the lease. There were absolutely no red flags on the car before that call. CarFax saved me a lot of aggravation. In the case of the original poster, the dealer failed to disclose accident damage that might have showed up on a CarFax check. I would have asked for one, wouldn't you?
