Struts were invented as a means of saving money (fewer components) and to make more room under the bonnet for transverse mounted engines. They have one severe flaw - the wheel's camber changes as the suspension travels up and down. This makes for poor performance in cornering situations where the suspension is heavily loaded. Double wishbones maintain the same camber throughout the suspension travel, therefore perform much better under those circumstances. -- Grunff
