Given GM (not to mention virtually every other car company) has spent billions/milliards of $ USDs researching/developing alternative-fuel vehicles, I would hardly say they are planning a longterm future with petroleum based fuels. If car companies want to sell cars to the 75% of the world's population who do not currently own vehicles do you think that they actually think they can do it purely by selling them fossil-fuel powered vehicles?
