I recall many years reading a story about an automotive reporter who took one of the early Saabs (1940s? 1950s? Can't remember) for a test drive. He found that at high speeds, the engine seemed to make an excessively loud roaring sound. He did his best to figure out what was causing all that racket. Finally he figured out what was going on. He had become accustomed to hearing a lot of wind noise when driving at high speed, and this noise was just not there in the Saab, which created the illusion that the engine was running louder than it should. Supposedly this was evidence that the Saab engineers had applied their advanced knowledge of aerodynamics into the design of their cars. It's probably a bit of a stretch to suggest that any of this would be relevant > half a century later, when deciding which car to buy. Also, I doubt that Saab was making jets in those days.
