Honestly, I'm not planning to buy the special scan tool for to be able to work on those 2-3 years of 9-2X and I would suggest for an owner to either use the Saab dealer or a Subaru specialist when it comes to check engine light and such.

The 9-7X though is a little bit different story since for that one, I can still use the Tech 2 scanner but just plop a GM memory card in.

When it comes to regular service, brakes and such things, any good mechanic can perform that (even I), but it is those pesky driveability problems and check engine lights that can be disastrous if you don't have the factory scan tool, wiring diagrams and repair manuals.
