You are right to be upset as the situation you were in was very hazardous. Cars of any make or model can die at inopportune times but in the case of the NG900/9-3 Hatch/9-5 the car is almost GUARANTEED to die at some point during it's normal use, whether in high-speed rush hour traffic or pulling out of your driveway due to the DI cassette. In my case I was very fortunate as it was about 1 mile from home and I was never in danger.

I do believe that SAAB is a couple of major lawsuits away from having a serious problem here. At some point you have to ask yourself how can a company have knowledge of a known failure point and not issue a recall or AT LEAST give verbal warning to folks that this will most likely happen by 60K miles or sooner, at 35K for me and 20K for you. This problem has been fixed in the new 9-3SS with a new design from what I understand.

I read this board all the time and was not all that surprised when it happened to me but reading an internet bulletin board should not be a requirement of safe operation of a vehicle. Additionally I could have easily been on I-285 in 75mph-80mph Atlanta rush hour traffic in the fast lane where I normally find myself and had a much scarier experience.
