After returning to Florida from SOC06 in our 95 9000CSE, I went to start the 9-5 and it turned over, fired up and promptly stalled. It would then turn over but not fire up. Suspecting the DIC, I got the spare out of the 9000 boot and put it in the 9-5. Turned over but did not fire and this time slight DIC burning smell detected. Since I was also having a small coolant leak, I called AAA and had the car flat bed trucked to Vero Beach Saab. Long story short, both DICs went bad and a new one fixed the problem as well as a new heater by-pass valve (second replacement in the cars life) for the coolant leak. Interesting that when we were puting it on the flat bed the DIC smell was very strong, much more than when it failed. Fortunately this failure was in my driveway. The spare had just over 110,100 miles and had been used once to rescue my 9000 in December when it had a DIC failure. A new red one was procured for the 9000 and the spare returned to its status as a spare. From all of this info and the miles on the newer one that failed I think that it would be prudent on older 9-5s with the 2.3lpt engine to replace the DIC at 90,000 mile intervals. The DIC on my 9000 went just before 90,000 miles. Anyone else have long term experience with DICs in the same car? Herb?
