The SID prys out. Be carefu not to gouge the dash when you do it. I find a butter knife works well. others recomend a flat head screwdriver.
The radio comes out easily using a "radio removal tool" that you can get at Wally mart etc. Others have posted that 4 nails work just as well, though I tried that and was not successful.
The Sid can be repaired easily (I have done it 3 times at least and brought back to 100%) however my repair does not seem to last (a month or so max)
the problem is with the ribbon cable connection from the board to the display. The SID and the display itself are fine. Search the board there is plenty of information. I found that the "fabric iron set to cotton" technique works best for restoring the connection (like I said I find that "best" means it lasts about a month.
Also check the "parts classififeds" you send the unit off to have it repaired for ~$100. I have not heard anything bad about that service.
best of luck
