If you have only one rattle, consider yourself lucky. I've had many. The area of squeaks and rattles is one in which my 2000 9-5 has been disappointing. Here's some of the noises I've had, and this is with less than 10k miles:
- Rattle inside rear-view mirror: mirror replaced
- Squeak in dash next to intrument cluster: fixed on 2nd attempt by inserting additional foam in dash
- Creaking in dash in vicinity of radio/acc controls: fixed, not sure how
- Rattle inside drivers door: Dealer tried to fix it once, but still not fixed.
- Rattle inside steering column at low RPM: Reported to dealer during service visit, but they didn't hear it.
- Intermittent rattle in rear of car, may be mechanical: Reported to dealer already, but again they didn't hear it.

For the last two, I plan to take the service advisor on a test drive during my next visit to make sure he can hear the noises.

I'm just venting I suppose. These things bug me in a car that cost this much. Bottom line: Take your car to the dealer and make sure you demonstrate the noise to the service advisor. They should be willing to fix it for you.
