Posted a couple of months ago about doing an oil flush; figured it fixed my perceived problem of low oil pressure - but a lot of people chimed in and said I had to drop the pan- made me paranoid, so did it this weekend. Thought I'd provide some thoughts on it:

Was a relatively straight forward job; took me 7 hours from start to end, this included jockying cars around, getting it up on jack stands, and clean-up as well as installing PCV#6 mod. Only serious piece of equipment required is a good floor jack. Quotes I got were in the $400-$500 range, so for me it was well worth DYI.

Oil pan was suprisingly clean; maybe 5% blockage on the pickup screen, and very little sludge in the actual pan. Not sure how much the oil flush had to do with this. Based on service history, looks like the PO used regular dino oil on 10k intervals for the last 60k miles (main reason why I dropped it).

A lot of talk in forum write ups of prying, etc to get the pan out; used the floor jack to accomplish same, and it came out easy.

If you don't have PCV#6 installed, do it when you drop the pan ... already up on jacks, and since the pan is removed it makes access that much easier.

Was really paranoid about using an anarobic liquid gasket; spent as much time prepping the mating surfaces as I did cleaning the pan of sludge. Not sure if my paranoia was founded, but no leaks!

If you are going to split the process over 2 days, make sure you put cardboard under the engine block, as it drips quite a bit of oil overnite!
