Good answer. I have not found any evidence that springs that are not broken need to be replaced.
Spring manufacturing is a complicated process. Alloy choice, heating and winding, and then a heat treating process of heating and quenching in several cycles.
How good to you want the springs? How much do you want to spend?
So our OE springs fall in the range of what the manufacturer can afford to spend, and a decent service life on the car.
We are pushing these Saabs into a long service life......so ride height is important for alignment. Spring spacers are the solution. New springs are a choice, but they need to be fine tuned with spacers when they settle in, so you are back in the same place.
Sure I changed springs on my KDX 200 to accommodate my size and riding style, as I did on my Ossa's, Bultacos, and Can-Am dirt bikes in the old days. So what does that have to do with my Saab 9-5 Aeros?
Finally Automotive coil springs CAN break, but it is VERY VERY rare!
