My common sense detector says NO and NO to your questions.

I do not believe it is Saab's responsibility to ensure maintenance is done in a timely manner, or even done at all. That responsibility is the vehicle owner's. Saab may "want all scheduled service done on leased cars" but I'm sure they "want" it done on non-leased cars too. And they "want" owners to have the work done at franchised dealers. "Want" doesn't mean much in this context, I'm afraid.

Since service isn't mandated, only suggested, there is no obligation on their part IMO. If Saab does this for you it'll be out of the goodness of their heart. I would not count on that. But who knows?

Of course you could not have known the service history of a car prior to your dealer's purchase of it. But you could have found the service history of a car prior to YOUR purchase of it. All ya had to do was take the VIN to a Saab dealer and have them run it, like you did *after* you bought it. I assume you did not buy this car from a Saab dealer, correct?

You certainly can contact Saab USA and plead your case but I'm gonna guess phrases like "obligation of guarantee" will get your letter round-filed. I wish ya good luck. Let us know what happens.
