Once you hit about 140kms/hr the rest of the speedometer lights up too. If you do it in third the tach will light up too- really just when the revs get near red-line (about 150-160 in 3rd in my Aero) If you intend to use the tach its best just to shut off the night panel, the tach springing back to life is kind of distracting and before it registers properly you've already missed the point you're looking for!

If you adjust the radio or ACC when in night panel mode the appropriate display will illuminate and will return to night panel after a few seconds.

After driving it for a while you'll find you'll be able to find all of the controls without looking. Its really well thought out. I tried just for fun without looking and got all of the controls bang on first try without looking. Its like they draw your hand to them!
