I just finished talking with two dealers, and got different answers on the GM supplier discount.
Basics – New ’04 Linear wagon, auto, comfort package, metallic paint.. Happen to be looking at a particular car with a Feb ’04 invoice date. I have a GM supplier discount, and Saab loyalty.

Dealer 1 -The Invoice sheet showed the GM supplier price to be 34,494. Off comes the $7K incentive, add a $179 document fee. That gets state tax, plus registration, minus the $500 loyalty. No further discounting, no matter how much I whined. OK - the idea is to get the no kidding price. They do note that since the car was invoiced in Feb, it doesn’t get any recent price increases. It was the sales manager I dealt with.

I go into dealer #2 to see if they have a better color selection on the lot. When it comes to price, they say that due to a July 10 memo, the starting price would be the GM price of 34,494 PLUS 1.5% of MSRP, or an additional $546. Then everything as above.

Dealer #2 claims that #1 made a mistake, and that even if they sold me a car at the lower price (no 1.5% markup), in a few weeks GM would send me a bill for the difference. Somehow, this doesn’t sound right. I haven't gotten back to #1 to ask.

So, is there a 1.5% of MSRP markup on top of the GM supplier discount? Would that apply to a car invoiced by Saab to the dealer in February? (I’ve got a copy of the invoice) If it does apply, I suspect dealer #1 would ‘discover’ the mistake come paperwork time.

Or, if I work a deal with #1 as quoted, and sign paperwork, is there anyway in the world GM will send me a bill later on? Doesn’t that fall under ‘not my problem, bro?’

Thoughts? Experiences?
