They replaced the piston rings, that means that they removed the oil pan and removed the con rod bolts and yanked the rods and pistons, then refitted. So you have new piston rings to reseat, so the engine needs to be broken in all over again so some extent.

They did a compression test, which apparently suggested that the piston rings should be replaced.

Cylinder head overhaul suggests that the valves seats were recut or relapped, but you could ask for details. But note that sub-optimal valve seating would have no impact on oil consumption, so may not have been done.

The valve stem oil seals were replaced, another potential source of oil consumption.

Bypass valve could have been bad and responsible for lower boost/performance.

Other parts, gaskets, o-rings are typical parts replaced when head and intake/exhaust manifolds are removed.

Oil consumption: You might have some of that while the rings are seating, or none at all. Most new Saab engines do not have detectable oil consumption.

Head was checked for flatness. No report of machining it to restore flatness, but that may be in the 'overhaul', again you need to ask.

When asking about these things, express how the engine seems to be running better than ever and that you would like to know more about what changes were made. They may be more inclined to discuss details if you bubble with enthusiasm.

For future reference, it appears that 10 new head bolts are not on the list. WIS does not require that these stretch bolts be new. But it is often suggested that stretch bolts not be re-used. So a grey area.

With hand torqued headbolts, there should not be an issue with loose head bolts, and the gasket used is considered to be non-settling.

Mark in your service manual what was done, and you effectively have new coolant at this point too.

If the piston rings were not sealing up properly, this might have been a source of oil comsumption, or increase blowby gasses may have pushed oil mist through the PVC system to the turbo intake etc. A significant improvement in compression ratio would increase performance, and you should see an improvement in MPGs and that number could change as the piston rings get seated.
