OK, you've got me going now. It appears that you have an oil pressure gauge. Is this an aftermarket unit? For stock, I've only seen the idiot light installation in Saabs. That doesn't mean that and oil pressure gauge wasn't stock in some application somewhere.

In general, aftermarket or not, if you have TWO terminals on your oil pressure sender, one is the idiot light, and the other is the pressure gauge. The body of the sender is the electrical ground. For the idiot light, 12 volts is applied to one side of the light in the dashboard, and the other side of the bulb goes to a switch in the sender. Below a certain pressure the switch is closed, connecting the low side of the bulb to ground and turning the light ON. Above a certain oil pressure, the switch opens and the light goes off.

For the gauge, 12 volts is connected to one side of the meter in the dash. The other side of the meter goes to the other terminal of the pressure sender. Inside the sender is a variable resistor, where increasing oil pressure usually means lower resistance. The lower the resistance, the more current flows through the meter, and a higher indication on the meter.

That is based on general oil pressure gauge applications. As I said, I've never seen a stock installation on a Saab. What do you have?
