I plan on pulling the "oil pressure regulator/overpressure switch" which the Bently describes is screwed into the oil pump. They say to pull and clean this if you have very high or low pressure. I have a friend who has a '93 BMW 740 and just had the engine and tranny rebuilt (178k). Currently he has the same problem as me at start. But I'm sure his is a hell of a lot easier to get to than "ours".
When I crawled up into there last night with a light, I saw 2 bolts in the area in which Bentley described. One is larger, easier to get to, and seems to be more in line with the side of the oil pump. The other is smaller, lower, and seems to be more toward the crank.
Does anyone have any experience removing the regulator? Which bolt is it? What should I clean it with?
Thanks again....
