Didn't do a standard deviation on the three results :-), but they were relatively consistent. The least viscous (flows most) is the P/S fluid. If you call it's flow distance 100%, the Mobil 1 goes 55%, and the Unknown goes 66%. I think those percentages varied a couple points... i.e. maybe 53/57 or 64/68. Don't recall off the top of my head.

Only place I'd disagree with your analysis is that if the unknown was pure Mobil 1 and picked up dirt/grease, it's viscosity would be greater than that of Mobil 1, and thus would flow less. In the test, it flowed more. So, I think the presumption that it picked up some P/S fluid on the way out is more reasonable. On the other hand, if the unknown was pure P/S fluid, it could conceivably pick up dirt, grease, and/or oil on the way out, become more viscous, and give these results.

But, a few questions remain:

1) The total volume of both P/S and engine oil systems is roughly 4qts. I'm noticing reduction in P/S fluid level, but NOT in engine oil level, yet this test seems to suggest I'm losing more engine oil. <head scratch>

2) Could the hypothetical engine oil leak actually somehow be helping the P/S fluid to leak? There was no P/S leak before the hypothetical engine oil leak began.

I'm not gonna be content until I have a solid explanation for this.
