As one of the +200 range guys i can assure you that a reliable 210-220 is very easy to achieve with a few bolt on components. that's about the limit for easy stuff. then you have to go to head work or start thrashing the boost numbers way up. i do it for a hobby, ported my own head etc... i expect to be pulling about 200 hp at 15-16lbs boost at the wheel next dyno run. jeff c got 238 at the wheel and that is with 2.1 liter ported head and fuel/apc upgrades. stock turbo though. if you regularly try to get that much power out of it you will toast the trans in short order. a rebuilt trans kept clean with good lube should handle 200 fairly well. no one drives at wfo all the time anyway. post 88 has better brakes. post 89 has better trans. post 91 has best trans. if you like to turn wrenches the saab is great. it'll keep you turnign them for a LOOOONNG time and is easy to get power out of it. fwiw mine has been trouble free for 2 years (except for that little incident with the lower a-arm) :) if you are not a good mechanic it will cost you dearly to upgrade it. you should expect to not have much change left over from 5k for all the parts ( susp, turbo etc...)
