I agree, it's about an hour. That's what it takes me, including the time to find all the tools and to wash up afterwards. The only time variable is how long it takes to clean the old gasket off the valve cover and head. If it's really stuck on, and comes off in pieces, plan on an hour. If it comes off nice and cleanly, half that.

I highly recommend you go out and buy a manual. The best would be the Bentley 900 16V manual. Not cheap at aroudn $40 mail order (check http://www.rb.com), but by far the BEST damn manual out there. Make the investment, it'll save you in the long run. As a backup, get the Haynes 900 manual. Cheaper - in the $15 range, and not bad.

You want to apply some sealant around parts of the gasket - where the cutouts are, and along the lower edge. The manual shows where. I don't remember the tightening torque - something in the 7-8 foot pound range comes to mind, but don't quote me. Somebody will come back with the proper value (or check in your brand new manual!) It's under 20 ft-lbs, so most 'click' type torque wrenches don't go down that low. I have two torque wrenches - one runs 20-150 ft-lbs for the big stuff, and another 0-25 ft-lb one. DO NOT OVERTORQUE - this is one not to 'do by feel' if you can avoid it.

While you're in there, check the condition of the timing chain. Turn the engine over by hand and inspect it for wear. Turn the engine to TDC for cylinder #1, and check the alignment marks on the cams against the marks on the head (great picture in the Bentley manual) - if they don't line up, it can indicate chain wear. If they do line up nicely, the chain is probably in good shape.
