The 85 fuel pump relay has two functions....one is to power the fuel pumps and therefore it is controlled from the ignition switch...but also it accepts the pulse signals from the negative side of the ignition coil..should those pulses disapear (i.e. no spark), the fuel pump relay will deactivate the fuel pumps to keep the engine from flooding and filling up with gas. Of course one can just the relay to get the car "off the road" (I carry such a wire just in case) but one has to be careful not to flood the engine if it does not start. The relay jump pin #s are #30 and #87. The relay has a total of five pins, looking straight ahead in the drivers seat, the pins are the left hand and right hand pin sockets. The left hand socket is different from the others in that it "points" left to right" and not like the right pin which is orientated front/back direction.
I should point out that what you describe can still be the electronic ignitin module that you state was replaced. Probably unlikely if the mechanic put heat sink paste under the new one so that the heat will disapate into the heat sink mount.....
