there may be more to this...yesterday, I put in the new fuel accumulator and the car finally started to "start" like it should. I drove it around all day yesterday. Everything seemed fine. I have an oil pressure gauge in this '82 900T and she generally reads around 30 while idling, around 45-50 while cruising. I have recently had the head rebuilt and installed everything about 2 weeks ago, but, waiting for the new accumulator, I haven't really driven it.

This morning, I started the car, began backing out of my driveway when the oil pressure light kicked on. The gauge read around 20lbs but wouldn't change with any sort of revs. I shut it down to find oil all over the driveway. Looking for a source, I noticed the seal on the oil filter was totally dislodged. I figured it was a bad filter...faulty seal. I changed the filter and replaced lost oil, tried to start the car...POP, the seal on the new filter blew as well. At startup, I noticed the oil pressure gauge jump to over 90lbs, saw the POP and saw the gauge drop to below 20. I quickly shut it off again and called a saab mechanic friend. He is sure it is the pressure relief valve. From other posts, considering the recent work done, getting something lodged in the valve is more than likely. I removed the valve but am starting to second guess myself...The piston came out really easily. I had two other engine blocks here and removed one of the valves to compare. It had been sitting and was a bit of a pain to remove. The piston on the '82 is different as well. It is a straight shaft with the four holes in the end. The other block revealed a piston with a grove near the 4 holes with a smaller hole in the grove that apparently would allow for some oil to get to the spring.

OK. My questions: Do the rest of you feel the problem to still be in the valve? and 2nd, is there a needed difference in the two pistons?

Sorry for the epic, I just need this baby back on the road and am stumped.
