The housing is the lowest point of entire engineblock

when it comes to coolant passages. And the most amount of dirt tend to build up right there.
The next place for build up is the freezeplug next to blockheater housing.
Anywhere else in the engine is minimal amount of build up created because of the circulation of coolant.

This two spots are acting like a dirttrap and collects almost all the dirt/deposits that goes through the engine.

Bottom of radiator is another spot where dirt is collected.

Just by removing plug you can't get all the dirt out, if there is any. And if the dirt is left in there it packs up against the aluminumhousing and freeze plug and allow the corrosion process to act quicker.

This is only in reference to the experiance that I have of the cars I see here on the Westcoast. But so far it's well over 100 2.1L engines I have had the chance to look into and almost all of them show the same problem, more or less.
