Al,
I just popped in the interior light time delay relay to upgrade my old '84 S. I got the part out of an '86 900S, four-door. (I don't think #of doors makes a difference).

Anyway, the relay for the interior lights (if you have the delay type) as well as the buzzer relay is under the rear seat. You simply grab the little fabric loop in the center of the seat, where the cushion meets the seatback, and pull it forward and tilt toward the front of the car. Leave the seat back in the up position, though.

Then, on the driver's side floor there, you will see the relays fastened to the car's frame with clips (you may have to bend the carpet forward out of the way a bit). The relay with 6 or 8 wires going to it is for the seat belt buzzer and the other (if equipped), with 4 wires, is the interior light time delay relay.

As for troubleshooting the relays, I can't help you. A Bentley manual for your car might show the wiring diagram and wires you might be able to jumper together for a test.

Try the door switch first, though. Do the lights not work at all? Or do they work with open passenger door(s) but not the driver's door? If other doors trip the lights on, then the relay probably isn't the problem--check the door switches. Some electrical contact cleaner sprayed around the door switch button(s) couldn't hurt, too.

I don't know at exactly what point the seat belt buzzer was replaced with a chime relay. I know my Mom's 1990 900 (base model) has the chime, while my '84 S has the sickly-sounding buzzer. My guess is 1990-93 junkyard cars are a safe bet for a chime realy. Happy hunting!
