It should be the same as in your '86's. I had a bad AIC in my '88 SPG which manifested itself with an intermittant "check engine light". I swapped out a known good one from my '86 900T and Voila, no more check engine light and occasional hi-idle.

Cleaning out the AIC is not hard. Just remove from engine and spray throughly with carb cleaner and finish up with some WD 40. I use a Q-tip or a rag wrapped around a pencil erasure to get down inside the AIC's inner workings. You want to get the black gunk out with the cleaning. The WD lubes the interior cylinder.

You also, as was suggested, want to clean out the throttle plate, by removing the rubber bellows and getting carb cleaner around the butterfly valve real well-don't be shy with the carb cleaner. Wipe with a CLEAN soft cloth.

If you have a Bentley (Saab owner's Bible) you can test the electrical leads on the AIC. With a Digital voltmeter, the Bentley will show you the correct ohm values. Mine were out of spec.

Check E-bay for replacement AIC's. You can get one for under $20 if lucky. Good luck.

You may have some additional spark related problems related to the rain-no start issues. Others have provided good tips there. Also try unplugging the AMM. This puts car into "limp home mode". If it runs better (no idle hunt) I'd immediately suspect the AMM again. Also make sure no rotted-broken vacuum hoses, this can cause high idle and cold start probs.
