First off, I'd like to thank all of you for being here. This is simply the best web site any enthusiast could ever ask for. Admittedly I am a bit more of a 'taker' than a 'giver', and only check in when I am stumped, but at least I am owning up to it.

Now my latest dilemma. '91 900S NA, 115,000 miles. A while back during acceleration, I heard a pop of sorts, saw a lot of brown smoke through my mirror, and the car developed a miss. Drove it home (normal temp on guage) and in the driveway, I noticed a lot of steam out the tailpipe and low coolant. Figured a head gasket. Did compression test, and #2 was a bit low, but also noted that the cylinder head was still 'dirty' looking (doesn't jive with past blown headgasket experiences).

Regardless, did a head job. Elrung gasket set, had head checked for warpage and leakage (none), lightly resurfaced, and had valve seals replaced, used low temp t-stat. Took forever and a day to get the timing right on the cams.

Put it all back together. Got 167 lbs (give or take a few) compression in all cylinders, but the exhuast still steams like it is going out of style. No water in oil. I have bled the cooling system, but have not yet flushed it and put new coolant in it. Still seems to be a slight miss, and I cannot find the timing marks with a light (maybe there is a hose I need to disconnect first).

SO. What in the heck did I miss? I seems unlikely that the block would get damaged before the head would. Any and all suggestions / comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Fred
