You can do moderate tweaking without any fear of damaging the engine. First set your base boost to between 5-6psi. Get a 3.0BAR fuel pressure regulator from an non-turbo 900. Then you can turn up the p and f potentiometers in the APC box to increase boost until the knock sensor intrusion becomes a nuisance. There are numerous posts on tweaking the APC box, but if you turn the f pot about 90 degrees clockwise so that the screw slot is horizontal and then bump up the p pot a little(10 degrees) at a time, you will get max boost well into the red. See how far youcan go without hitting the knock sensor at WOT. If you set the timing to 15 degrees BTDC from 16 btdc stock, you can get a bit more boost without knocking and still have acceptable off boost perfomance. The knock sensor will still protect your engine, but every time it cuts boost you lose uumph. To increase pressure without knock beyond this, you need to get additional spark retard via a modified distributor diaphram or a MSD spark controller. Beyond that your talking water injection, bigger injectors, adjusting/bypassing the max boost cut-off control, etc.
