(1) This afternoon when I started up my '88 I heard strange sounds from the radio. There was a fair amount of electrical noise coming through the system and every time I pushed a preset button I got a loud "BEEP!" before the station would change. The beeping at station change went away after 5 minutes - It really wasn't that cold today though - anyone have a similar story?

(2) I'm pretty sure that the waterpump and/or hoses attached to it are leaking as I have noticed: (i)dried white residue on exhaust pipe in front of cat (evaporated coolant) (ii) suryup smell through heating system (iii) loss of coolant from reservoir and (iv) squealling belts and other noises from pulley that remind me of the sound of wet belts on a Chrysler 2.5 4cyl engine. I am waiting for the waterpump and hoses to arrive from eeuropparts - in the mean time is it safe to drive the car? Most trips are very short ( >8 miles) and I try to keep the coolant reservoir full - is the temperature gauge reading reliable? (oil just changed and looks ok)
