Without more info, it's no telling why the Check Engine Light (CEL) is on; it could be one of several things acting up. Might want to let folks know what year your SAAB is and whether or not it's a Turbo, S, or base model. It helps quite a bit!

Anyway, a good troubleshooting procedure to diagnose engine symptoms (and to find out why the Check Engine light is glowing) can be done on the 1988-up 16V non-turbo 900 and the 1989-up 16V turbo 900 cars.

Good information on the fault code-pulling procedure (in which you can make the SAAB's fuel injection computer--called LH Jetronic 2.4--flash the CEL in code sequences to alert you of stored trouble codes) is found on the Swedish Wrench website (copy & paste): http://www.swedishwrench.com/flashcode.htm
