Several things...

1) Replace with a universal 3 wire generic sensor. The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer ) part is over $100, while the generic is 35. You need to splice 3 wires to the wires on your car. You need a crimping device ($10) to do this. Solder won't work as this piece heats up and melts solder. You need to match the white and black wires tot he white and black wires on the original plug. This requires cuting the original cord right down at the level of the old sensor with a wire cutter ($8).

2) The O2 sensor may want to stick. The piece is in a tight area so you have poor leverage. If your car is a turbo, the area is even tighter. That means I usually remove the entire elbow from my Saab 900Turbo Convertible and place it in a table mounted vice. I then keep a blow torch at my side. I use a 1/2 inch ratchet and socket from Sears ($100 for the kit - on sale and additional discount for Sears Craftsman prefered card) and twist the snot out of the unit after using an angle grinder ($12 in Canada at Princess Auto - a great place for tools and stuff if you are ever in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada) to cut off the top of the old sensor. (There is a special O2 sensor remover for $15, but in my experience it is SH!T, as it bends and rounds off the edges of the bolt). If the piece wont come off, I use a 3/4 inch inner diameter 3 foot long iron pipe that I place over the end of my ratchet to get leverage and I use the blow torch ($20 at home depot) to heat the bung up and loosen it so I can then force the O2 sensor free. I am 6 foot, 200lb, with 52 inch shoulders, and I sometimes have trouble with this.

Inconclusion, if you already have tools and are ready for problems and are muscular, this is a job you might be able to tacle. If you have no idea, never really used tools, own no tools, and are not prepared for problems, you can really get screwed. Perhaps I and the rest of the men on the BB are being sexist here in asuming the a woman will have trouble with this as her first DIY job, but on the whole most women don't own tools, are smaller than men, and don't usually work on cars. If you are like my ex-girlfriend who flew planes, or like my other ex-girlfriend who was an iron worker, ( I can't believe I didn't marry one of them - they were beautiful and really cool - but I digress), you will do fine and I owe you an apology.

You can see that this can be a messy
