>> Has anyone tried 225/50s or 225/45s on these rims?

Zeke is the only person I've heard of to get away with mounting a tire this size on a 9K, but I don't know if you could plan on a common fit on even two cars of the same year and model. I mounted 205-55-16's on my '91 9KT with Aero wheels and had no trouble with four different types of tires, yet others claim they've experienced rubbing on like cars with this size tire.

I think you're asking for a crap shoot going any larger than 205-55-16, though I think you're safe with that size, as any rubbing will be minor and can probably be twarted by grinding down the inner-fender-well bolts like Zeke did. The Tire Rack claims that 9K's can handle up to 215-55-16, but that size is rarely seen.

>> I checked a tire size calculator which shows the 225/50 with give about a +3.7% error on the speedo and the 225/45s a -0.5%.

This is true assuming your speedo is correct to begin with. My '91 was right on the money, but this Aero is 6% fast, so for me a +3.7% fudge would be welcomed.

Keep in mind that a larger tire will add unsprung weight and will affect handling on all but smooth surfaces, as it will not be as responsive to bumps as a lighter wheel/tire combo. They will also hydroplane sooner.

If your stable has as many horses as Zeke's, you may need the extra rubber on the road, but if not maybe you could struggle along with the stock size or close to it. I've kept to that, and even with the extra power Zeke as set me up with (about 260 hp @ 20 psi), these Firestone SZ-50's (205-55ZR-16)have yet to lose their composure.

We haven't had much rain since the mods were done and I haven't checked the tires at full throttle in the wet, but with the stock Aero setup they weren't fazed by much of anything in the wet or dry. They may come unglued a bit in the wet under the enhanced acceleration, though.
