I take it from your post that you replaced the bypass valve (I assume turbo bypass valve, aka 'hooter valve') and that the car ran well for a little bit, then got crappy again. How long did it run well?

It sounds like the hose from the throttle body to the hooter valve is sliding off. This makes sense, because the throttle body is pressurized under boost, and since there is oil in the air due to the crankcase ventilation, an oily rubber hose tends to slip off. Any time I have a small vacuum line that likes to slip off, I get a small Ty-Rap (used for bundling electrical wires) and clamp it around the end of the hose where it fits onto the nipple. This tends to tighten the joint up enough.

If you have hoses coming off, by all means, make sure they're all back on. Clamp any hose that's giving you trouble - just because vacuum hoses don't come with clamps from the factory doesn't mean you can't clamp them. And if the hose is getting soft, replace it.

Find ALL your vacuum leaks. They will play havoc with your performance. Turbo engines run at positive pressure, which likes to pop hoses off. My favorite vacuum leak is at the charcoal canister. It's a big hose, but you can't see it because it's buried in the right front fender. Remove the right front turn signal assembly - it's just one screw and peek in. You'll see a black plastic charcoal canister with some hoses going to it. Make sure they are all well seated.

Once you have made sure all your hoses are on and staying on, then you can check for other problems. IF the vacuum lines are all OK, a lack of low end acceleration, basically lousy throttle response, is often due to a bad Air Mass Meter (AMM). The AMM measures airflow and schedules fuel. If it isn't measuring air properly, you won't get fuel, and no fuel, no go. The computer is smart, though, and if it sees high RPM or high throttle position (foot to the floor), but no airflow, it assumes the AMM is wrong and schedules fuel.

So clean up the vacuum lines, and if the problem persists, think about the AMM.

Good luck!
