Remove passenger side wheel liner

Remove drive belt

Remove idler pulley on integral tensioner (4 bolts on 2.0l non turbo)

There are 2 large bolts that hold the alternator on; one at the bottom which is readily visible; the other is not so easy to see as its head is on the engine compartment side, in other words it goes the opposite way to the bottom one. IIRC To get at it move the power steering reservoir to one side, remove the top dogbone mount (just this one there is not need to remove it from the engine block) and undo one nut and move the oil dipstick tube to the side...just a few inches and without straining it too much. Get your hand down in and feel for the bolt head you can work out where it is by looking at the alternator from the wheel side. It will be fiddly but with patience you will do it.

When you get the bolts out don't worry the alternator will not fall out...on the contrary you will need to grasp it with both hands and firmly and I mean firmly rock it from side to side...Popeye forearms and a grip of steel required! When loosened there is room to angle it to remove the wiring before twisting and turning it to get it out of there. Installation as they say is the reverse of removal!
