At that latitude, I'd use M1 15W-50 year-round.....

Especially, given you have elevated boost pressures, that combination of turbo and heat will drop a 40 down to a 30 in no time, or less. Ok, I'm exagerating, a little. But seriously, even the M1 15W-50 dropped to the low 40's when I did an UOA from Blackstone. I'm more concerned with low-rpm, high-torque situations: those conditions require a heavier viscosity in order to maintain sufficient oil pressure to keep the underside piston squirters functioning. I'd use the 0W-40 before the 5W-30, but at your climate, I'd just forget about it and use the 15W-50 year-round. It'll still flow at quite low temperatures, down to 0º IIRC - how often do you see those kind of temperatures in N.C? As I see it, the benfits to always using a heavier weight synthetic in a high output turbo engine far outweigh the risks involved with encountering wear from extreme cold-start conditions.
